Piquel

Terms of service

Last updated 3 November 2026.

These terms govern your use of Piquel: the sign-in service at auth.piquel.fr, the account settings and developer console it serves, the website at piquel.fr, and the software development kits (SDKs) Piquel publishes. Piquel is a free, non-commercial project run by an individual developer in France ("Piquel", "we"). As French law allows for a non-professional publisher, the developer's identity is held by our host instead of being published here: OVH SAS, 2 rue Kellermann, 59100 Roubaix, France, +33 9 72 10 10 07. By creating an account, signing in, or registering an app, you agree to these terms. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your data.

1. What Piquel is

Piquel is a passkey-first sign-in service. A Piquel account lets you sign in to Piquel's apps, and to other apps that use Piquel, with a passkey kept on your device or in your password manager. You can also link a GitHub or Google account to sign in.

Piquel is in early development. Features may change, be removed or stop working, and we may reset or migrate data while the service matures. We will tell you by email before anything that deletes your account's data, unless the law or an emergency prevents it.

2. Your account

  • You must be at least 15 years old, or the age of digital consent where you live if it is higher, to create an account.
  • Registration may require an invitation. An invitation is for the person it was given to.
  • An account is for one person. Keep your passkeys, the devices and password managers that hold them, and any linked GitHub or Google account secure: anyone who can use them can use your account.
  • Your handle and display name are public: apps you sign in to receive them, and anyone can learn whether a handle belongs to an account. Don't choose a handle or name that impersonates someone, infringes someone's rights, or is offensive. We may rename or reclaim a handle that breaks these terms.
  • Tell us at [email protected] if you think someone else used your account. If you lose every passkey, we can help you recover it as described in the privacy policy, after checking that it is yours.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • break the law, or help anyone else break it, through Piquel;
  • access or try to access accounts, data or systems that aren't yours, or probe, scan or test Piquel's security without our written permission;
  • disrupt Piquel, overload it, or get around its rate limits, invitations or other restrictions, including with automated requests;
  • impersonate a person or organisation, or misrepresent your affiliation;
  • use Piquel to send spam or phishing, or to collect other people's data without their consent.

If you find a security vulnerability, report it to [email protected] and give us a reasonable time to fix it before disclosing it.

4. Apps that use Piquel

When you sign in to an app with Piquel, it receives only what it asks for and, unless it is one of Piquel's own apps, what you approve: your account identifier, and, if it asks, your handle and display name and your verified email address. Apps run by others are not Piquel's: their own terms and privacy policies govern what they do with your data. You can remove an app's access at any time in your account settings, under Connected apps.

5. Developers

If you register an app in the developer console, you also agree to these terms:

  • You are responsible for your app and how it uses the data it receives. Your app must have its own privacy policy, ask only for the scopes it needs, and use users' data only as they expect and as the law allows.
  • Keep your client secrets confidential. Rotate a secret at once if it may have leaked.
  • Don't make your app look like Piquel or another app, and don't use Piquel to trick users into approving access.
  • The developer console limits how many apps an account may register. We may disable or delete an app that breaks these terms, that puts users at risk, or that we are required to stop, and we will tell its owner unless we can't.

6. SDKs and source code

Piquel's source code and SDKs are published at github.com/piquel-fr/piquel-fr under the Apache License 2.0. That license, not these terms, governs your use of the code. These terms govern your use of the service Piquel runs.

7. Suspension and deletion

You can delete your account at any time from your account settings. It is scheduled for deletion and then deleted for good, as the privacy policy describes; until then you can sign in with a passkey and choose to restore it.

We may suspend or disable an account, or end its sessions, if it breaks these terms, if it puts other users or Piquel at risk, or if the law requires it. We will tell you why, unless the law or the safety of others prevents it. You can contact us to dispute a decision.

8. No warranty

Piquel is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We don't promise that it will always be available, uninterrupted or free of errors. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that the law says cannot be limited.

9. Liability

To the extent the law allows, Piquel is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for losses caused by apps run by others, by your devices or password managers, or by your linked GitHub or Google account. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, such as liability for gross negligence or wilful misconduct.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will post the new version here, with its date, and tell account holders by email at least 30 days before a material change takes effect. If you don't agree, you can delete your account before then.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by French law. If a dispute arises, write to us first: most problems can be solved that way. Otherwise, it goes to the French courts, unless the law where you live as a consumer gives you the right to bring it there.
